FOR THE FIRST TIME IN TURKISH FAIR INDUSTRY HISTORY, THE GLOBAL ASSOCIATION OF THE EXHIBITION INDUSTRY (UFI) HELD THEIR 75TH CONGRESS IN ISTANBUL, TURKEY FROM 12-15 NOVEMBER 2008 The official opening of the UFI 75th Congress, hosted by HKF Trade Fairs, was held on Thursday 13 November while the congress ran from the 12 to the 15 November. Thus an UFI Congress was held in Istanbul Turkey for the first time in the history of the Turkish Exhibition and we proudly hosted this meaningful Congress here. The focus of the congress was on the world exhibition industry with particular emphasis on Turkey. A report on the results of an analysis of the global activity of UFI was presented to the congress. A press conference was organised where the following were present: UFI President, John Shaw The 75th UFI Congress’ opening address was delivered by UFI president, Mr. John Shaw. General Manager of HKF Mr. Bekir Çakıcı then made a presentation titled: “Turkey, a market rich in business opportunities” demonstrating the potential for the exhibition industry in the Turkish market and he also gave a brief about the history of fairs. To celebrate the first Congress to be held in Turkey, the 75th UFI Congress’ gala dinner was held for the delegates at the Sait Halim Pasha Mansion with the hospitality of The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey and 460 guest attended. The president of TOBB, Mr. Rıfat Hisarcıklıoğlu, made the welcoming address. The gala dinner was attended by all the delegates and partners as well as the Vice-President of TOBB, Mr. Hüseyin Üzülmez, the Fairs and Exhibitions Director, Mr. Cihat Alagöz and the Assistant Governor of Istanbul, Feyzullah Özcan. The guests were served with delicious highlights from the Turkish cuisine to the accompaniment of traditional Turkish music. The evening was concluded with a spectacular firework display. |
